PORTO GAIA HOTEL
STUNNING VIEWS, EXCELLENT FOOD AND ACCOMODATION, AN INCREDIBLE ART COLLECTION (Alexander Calder, Vhils, Antoni Tàpies, Manolo Valdés, Joan Miró, Arman, Fernando Botero…), AND A GRAPE SEED SCRUB IN A SPA WITH A VIEW (don’t miss the Vintage Goddess or Essence of Kopke treatments) – the new TIVOLI KOPKE PORTO GAIA HOTEL is a true luxury haven for Port Lovers.
Welcome to Vila Nova de Gaia, a city on the south bank of the River Douro, in the heart of Gaia’s historic port-lodge district –the perfect place for wine enthusiasts to enjoy exceptional tasting experiences.
A remarkable partnership brings together The Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, founded in 1933 and one of Portugal’s leading hotel chains, and Kopke ,the oldest port wine house in the world.
From your hotel roo, you’ll enjoy views over the colorful, cobbled alleyways of the Ribeira district, as well as from the Miradouro da Rua das Aldas, an observation terrace located just below Porto’s Romanesque cathedral. For a different perspective of the rooftops and the river, head back to Gaia across the upper deck of the Luís I Bridge, where trams rumble past, gently shaking the ironwork built in 1880 by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel.
You can’t miss the huge ‘Kopke’ sign towering above the historic warehouse as soon as you arrive. Take a moment to admire the wine vats and barrels of the old cellar, contrasted with the rich collection of modern art and sculptures scattered throughout the property.
A GOURMET EXPERIENCE
by
3-Michelin-starred chef Nacho Manzano
You’ll be welcomed with a glass of port on arrival, and you can even book a fascinating tasting session with Albert, the sommelier. In the fine-dining restaurant 1638 (named after the year Kopke was founded),Nacho Manzano presents 11 culinary “moments” , accompanied by nine wine pairings from the KOPKE portfolio. Still wines from the Quinta da Boavista and Quinta de São Luiz are also included in the tasting. Chef Nacho has a special talent for weaving together words, flavours, and emotions to create an utterly unique gastronomic experience.
Nacho Manzano is widely known as the chef behind the Ibérica tapas chain, but in Iberia itself he is a major culinary figure,
holding three Michelin stars for Casa Marcial in his native Asturias in northern Spain.
A must-try—and truly unforgettable—is the dish enigmatically described on the menu as ‘’pasture cantabric orchard open-air,’’
It arrives as a perfectly cooked sirloin presented on a beautiful white plate, its porcelain textured with what looks like a hundred thumbprints. The salt-dusted beef rests partly on a vibrant green seaweed pesto, with artfully arranged pickled micro-vegetables on the opposite side, and a spoonful of glossy pil-pil and beef emulsion spooned over the top. Each element enhances the others: gamey meat, sharp vegetables, the saline pesto, the creamy sauce. It’s simply unforgettable !
Manzono also oversees the Boa Vista Terrace restaurant on the floor below, where he serves tapas-style dishes such as a
codfish tortilla laced with peppers, along with more substantial mains. In the mornings, the buffet breakfast—paired with the stunning view —is truly…unique.
